Viyffo’s 10-inch taper candles in Olive Glow come in a 12-pack and are marketed as unscented and smokeless. They’re aimed at households that want the look of traditional taper candles without the scent or smoke that can bother sensitive individuals. This review examines how they perform in typical settings like dinners, mantels, and emergency kits.
In real-world use, these candles fit standard taper holders and are often used for ambient lighting during meals or as part of seasonal decor. The 10-inch height gives them a classic, elegant profile that works well on dining tables, in wall sconces, or on fireplace mantels. Because they’re unscented, they won’t compete with food aromas or perfume, making them a practical choice for dinner parties or for people who prefer no added fragrance. The smokeless claim is important for indoor air quality; many cheap candles produce visible smoke and soot, but these are designed to minimize that.
Key functional features include the 10-inch length, which provides a longer burn time than shorter tapers—typically around 6 to 8 hours per candle, depending on conditions. The 12-pack offers good value for occasional use or for stocking up. The olive glow color is a muted, earthy green that can complement various decors, though it may not match every color scheme. The candles are made of paraffin wax, which is common and generally burns steadily, but it’s not a renewable resource like soy or beeswax. The wicks are cotton, which helps with the smokeless performance when trimmed properly.
One limitation is that unscented candles lack the aromatherapy benefit that scented options provide. If you enjoy a subtle fragrance, these won’t deliver that. Also, while they are smokeless under ideal conditions, any candle can smoke if the wick isn’t trimmed to about 1/4 inch before each use or if there’s a draft. The olive glow color might be too specific for those who want pure white or ivory candles for formal events. Additionally, the burn time, while decent, is not exceptional; some higher-end beeswax tapers can last longer and burn cleaner, but they cost significantly more.
Compared to similar products, such as standard white taper candles from grocery stores, Viyffo’s offer a unique color and a smokeless formulation, but they are priced at a premium. They are comparable to other unscented taper candles from brands like Root or Northern Lights, though those often use beeswax and have a different burn characteristic. For a more budget-friendly option, generic paraffin tapers work fine but may smoke more. If you’re looking for a scented ambiance, a jar candle or reed diffuser might be a better fit.
Who are these candles for? They suit people who want unscented, smokeless candles for dining or decor, especially those with allergies or sensitivities to fragrance. They’re also good for households that use candles during power outages, as the unscented nature means no overwhelming smell in a small room. However, they are not for those who want a scented candle experience or who need a specific color like white for religious ceremonies. Also, if you’re looking for a long-burning candle for extended use, these might not be the most economical choice.
In terms of performance, the candles burn with a steady flame and minimal dripping when placed away from drafts. The olive glow color is consistent throughout the candle, so as they burn down, the color remains. However, the color may appear different under various lighting conditions; in daylight, it’s a soft olive, but under warm light, it can look more brownish. The unscented aspect is true to claim—no added fragrance. The smokeless claim holds up if you keep the wick trimmed and avoid drafts, but in a breezy room, you might notice some smoke.
Overall, the Viyffo taper candles are a functional, no-frills option for those who prioritize unscented, smokeless performance. They’re not the cheapest or the most luxurious, but they do their job. If you’re in the market for colored tapers for a specific event or for everyday use, these are worth considering, provided you manage expectations about burn time and the specific hue.
